Waterfalls
are one of the attractions in Samoa, most of them inaccesible for
normal people. A few of them drop right in to the ocean so that you
can paddle up to them in your kayak.
Upolu
island has more rivers than any of the other islands. The bedrock of
Savai'i consists of young basalt and is very permeable for water,
and only a tiny fraction of the rainfall continues to flow on the
surface to form rivers. Upolu island has more rivers due to the not
so porous bedrock and possibly a higher rainfall. Most rivers and
waterfalls are therefore found on Upolu island.
